Anyway, I thank you for your advice.
I must have written well over a thousand sonnets in the web already!
I don't think it is always possible to make every piece equally good.

In response to:Sonnet: 9/11 Revisited

Look, this *isn't* poetry. It's a bunch of rather unoriginal and uninteresting images lassoed together by the odd line-end rhyme, to the end of trying to appear important. It doesn't work as a poem.

Look, think about your own gut feelings towards what happened in New York four years ago, think about what things feel and look like subsequently, and why they're different. Make it concrete and personal.

Don't worry about rhymes, or any other traditional poetic device: if your poem is strong enough it will work on language anyway.

Just remember, bad poetry is worse than no poetry at all. Don't be a bad poet. Try and be a good one.

In response to:Sonnet: Marriage

well, who are you? show your face

In response to:Terrorist Strikes!

thank you Dawn for enjoying the read.
A Doctor once told me I would have a heart attack or stroke if I did not stop smoking, cut down on fat and lose weight. He got very annoyed when I told him I could not possibly give up smoking (how could I have given up when I didn't smoke. I also had a healthy diet and took plenty of exercise (I had less body fat that an average male ten years younger than me but was overweight of the BMI scale because the men in our family are all short and heavily built) If he could have been arsed to examine me rather than lecturing me on the basis of his uninformed assumptions about my lifestyle he might have daignosed the easily treatable condition that was turning my blood to ketchup and eventually cause me to have a brain haemorrhage.
Exhaust fumes are far more damaging than cigarette smoke but the government are happy to let us keep driving so long as we stump up the tax. Same with ciggys, they don't really want people to stop but are giving themselves an excuse to hike the tax every year.
best
I read most of your poems but this one just touched me. I can't tell you how it has made me feel. I am insanely jealous of your writing and wish I could have written this particular poem. It's beautiful, it really is. I don't know what else to say so I am going to stop writing but to conclude: am going to print out your poem to inspire me with my own writing so long as it's alright with you.

In response to:And Still People Smoke!

www.michaelstmark@blogspot.com
